Common Questions
Files won't save where I expect
On the Mac App Store, apps are sandboxed for security. Paper can save to locations you choose via the standard Open/Save dialogs. If you need to save to a specific folder, use "Save As" and navigate to your desired location.
How do I export my document?
Use Copy as HTML (Edit → Copy as HTML or the keyboard shortcut) to copy your document as formatted HTML. You can then paste it directly into email clients, CMS platforms, or other rich text editors.
What file types are supported?
Paper opens and saves .md, .markdown, and .txt files.
Does Paper sync files to the cloud?
Paper stores files locally on your Mac. You can save to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud folders through the standard Save dialog, and those services will sync the files as usual.
How do I write without distractions?
Use Focus Mode (Cmd + Shift + F) to hide all interface elements and focus purely on your text. Press the same shortcut to exit.
How does the syntax highlighting work?
Paper uses Live Markdown Highlighting to style your text as you type. Headings, bold, italic, code, and links are visually distinct while remaining editable plain text.
